LISA Kicked off
Vienna, 15.06.2009Land Cover and Land Use (LC/LU) mapping from aerial and satellite imagery remains to be a multi-faceted challenge. With the background of related European GMES approaches and given the requirements of Austrian regional mapping and spatial planning administrative units the project “LISA Land Information System Austria” is developing an object-oriented multi-application LC/LU classification and data model. Over eight test sites in Austria the model shall be validated in close cooperation between industry, research, agencies and government authorities. EOX responsibility in LISA covers the online integration of LISA with the European GMES Spatial Data Infrastructure in preparation of the GMES Land Monitoring Core Service for initial operation from 2011 onwards. LISA which is the biggest ever funded project funded in the Austrian Space Application Programme is coordinated by the Innsbruck based company GeoVille and was kicked off on 15 June after a competitive evaluation process.
