Monitoring Systems Interoperability - the GIGAS Action

The EC FP7 project "GIGAS" tackles the rapid adoption of standards, protocols, and open architectures, in support of the GEOSS, GMES, and INSPIRE in a holistic way. The first year review of the project was performed on 23 July. As intermediary results the GIGAS Technology Watch Report and the Comparative Analysis Report were presented as well as a first set of GIGAS recommendations and consensus.

EOX as project partner has now also taken up project activities contributing to GIGAS online data access standard issues and interoperability considerations in the framework of the GMES Land Services.

Happy 1st Anniversary EOX

Vienna, 01.07.2009
Time for a roundup, and this one coincides with a notable first-year anniversary:  that of EOX establishment on 1st July 2008. Since then, the name “EOX” has become virtually synonymous with “information technology for online delivery of Earth Observation imagery from space and aerial” and EOX has been hitting all targets planned for this first year.

We from EOX wish to express our gratitude for the best “birthday presents” we can think of which are the new contracts just recently awarded and thus great perspectives opened by our key customers the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Austrian Aerospace Agency (ALR).

- ESA contract "HMA-FO Online Data Access" for contributing an Earth Observation profile to the OGC Web Coverage Service Standard (read more)

- ALR contract "Pléiades Datennutzung in Österreich" for supporting the formulation of a related official Austrian Earth observation data policy (read more)

- ALR research funds for establishing "LISA - Land Information System Austria" to which EOX is contributing the online product dissemination utilities (read more)

Our thanks for this successful year are going to our clients and partners, the list of which is getting longer quickly. We invite you all for staying tuned in for what is coming up in the future.

HMA-FO Online Data Access Contract Awarded & Kick-Off Achieved

ESA/ESRIN, Frascati, 24.06.2009
The European Space Agency (ESA) has tasked EOX in the course of the Heterogeneous Mission Accessibility (HMA) initiative to implement the Online Data Access services (HMA-FO ODA). HMA is ESA's interoperability framework for coordinated data discovery and access. It will be exploited within GMES to ensure interoperability to some 40 different Earth Observation satellite missions. HMA interoperability interfaces are standardised within the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC).

EOX is leading a consortium including GIM from Belgium, Jacobs University Bremen from Germany, and Spot Image from France. Under this ESA contract a Earth Observation contribuion to the OGC Web Coverage Service willl be delivered, possibly leading to a community specific profile (EO-WCS). For fostering the industrial take-up and implementation the standardization process in the relevant OGC interface standards working group will be complemented by the delivery of an Open Source Software implementation of the EO-WCS.

Please find OGC's official press release at their homepage
